In 1895, Leo Tolstoy,
the Russian mystic and novelist uttered the
immortal words,
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of
changing himself.”
I
met Leo Tolstoy in his Pamphlets, and
since then, I began writing, retelling my story, with intent to change myself,
so I can truly change the world. This was a moment of personal challenge as a
stranger in a foreign land; a political refugee in Uganda, with unclear sources
of income, unperfected skills, and even worse, clouded focus on life. It was
also a moment of self-introspection, spiritual re-awakening, and whole life
transformation. I tell my story as it comes to me, good and bad alike, and I
seek to learn from my yesterday, so that I can have a happier today; for
tomorrow is still mystery. There
is so much in me that if changed, can change the world without any more work on
my side. This book is about me changing myself. This is a continuing story,
a tale that will not be finished by me, but by those who come after me, when I
am no more.
